Cockroach is harmful for a healthy living condition. They contaminate food, drop feces on utensils and leave a foul smell all around. But cockroaches are most damaging when they spread diseases. Medical scientists have conclusively linked cockroach allergen with asthma attacks. Most homes and apartments in Dhaka and other cities in Bangladesh are infested with cockroaches. In recent years, infestation of German Cockroaches has spread rapidly. German Cockroaches are relatively small in size compared to American Cockroaches. They are also hard to control.

At least thirteen (13) species of cockroaches have been recorded so far in Bangladesh. However, American Cockroach (Periplanetaamericana) and German Cockroach (Blatellagermanica) are most prevalent in this country. American cockroach is mostly found in independent houses, but may also be found in the first three levels of apartment buildings. German Cockroach is more abundant in apartments, restaurants, hotels, etc.
